The renewal requirements include completing the prescribed continuing education courses (15 hours for junior/3 years, 30 hours for intermediate/3 years, and 50 hours for senior/5 years), passing the renewal assessment (online assessment for junior and intermediate, and professional review for senior), and maintaining a good professional record.

The WMO certification exam is conducted online, allowing students worldwide to participate via the Internet, subject to certain network conditions and equipment requirements. The exam languages include Chinese, English, Spanish, French, German, Russian, and Japanese. Candidates can choose the appropriate exam language when registering, and the content and difficulty of the exam remain consistent across all language versions to ensure fairness.

If a candidate fails the exam, they may apply to retake it. For the junior and intermediate certifications, there are 3 opportunities for a make-up exam, while for the senior certification, there are 2 opportunities. The first make-up exam must be applied for within 3 months of the initial exam, while the second and third make-up exams must be applied for at least 1 month after the previous exam.
